SusanHere: I was thinking (as usual) and now I'm confused. It is my understanding that when you marry in the temple it is "forever and an eternity." So, who gets her in the celestial worldd? Husband number 1? Or husband number 2?

New System Questions
by sandy inok, so the new system is just around the corner, right?
if you mary your deceased best friend's fiance what happens when the three of you meet up again in the new system?
i mean i know the reasoning that the dead will be resurrected to perfection and will feel no more physical pain but what about the emotional pain?

Then Mormon's must have changed their theology. I lived in Salt Lake City for 5 years; worked for one of your finest elders at Ken Garff Oldsmobile, etc. ( He has about 5 dealerships) My daughter was born in LDS hospital and her father's family still live there and are Mormons.
I have to say SusanHere, that my experience is that Mormons strong belief 'in family life" is pretty equal to JWs strong belief in family life. I am e-mailing my daughter, who works with a Mormon woman (named Susan). My daughter busted her for drinking a Coke the other day. She asked my daughter how she knew she was Mormon; my daughter replied that "her garments" were showing. I will let you explain "garments" should you choose! I will be interesting to see how Susan responds.
I worked with a Mormon women who was "disfellowshiped" after being married in the temple and then marrying someone else. The one thing I can say, is that I lived there when a member of the governing body died. The Mormon elder next door came to our house to offer his condolences; I do not think many JWs would have done that.

Clam: Mormon widows are not allowed to remarry; Mormon widowers are allowed to remarry. This applies to those married in the temple (forever and an eternity, i.e., their marriages are not dissolved by death). Mormons no longer believe in poligamy in their terrestrial (earthly) lives; however, they do believe in poligamy in their celestial (heavenly) lives. They also believe that upon resurrection, men become gods over their own planets, and that women become goddesses. The god can have multiple goddesses.
I know of an elderly brother (elder) in a Spokane congregation who married is ex-sister-in-law a couple years ago. His wife had died; her husband had died. I thought the same thing...what would each one say to their spouses upon resurrection?

Why do women make up the majority?
by daniel-p ini want to pose what is to me an interesting question: .
why is there a preponderance of women in religion?
i think we all agree that females do make up the majority of pretty much every religion, including jw's, but why?

Dear FD:
think TD's post on Margaret Mead's work in the 1930s said most of what I would have said, but to reiterate: Mead's observations were actually of a very recent change in the culture due to extraordinary circumstances, and 1) Mead never made the claim that there was no physiological basis for gender roles. Moreover, she never made the claim - as you did - that there was a tribe in which 2)"the women hunt while the men stay home and tend to the children". Perhaps, to avoid embarrassing yourself you should check your sources and read some more up to date work on the subject.
1) Ms. Mead didn't make the claim because she died before a scientific basis to make the statment was discovered. As I said in a prior post, the human genome has been mapped; there are no codons that are male or female specific. That means that every possible gene a man has, a women has. There is no gene on the y chromosome that is not on a X chromosome.
For those of you who believe the bible, this IS in agreement, as Woman (she did not become Eve until AFTER the apple), was a CLONE of Man (Adam). Woman means female-man. Our bodies are exactly the same. Men, did you know you start out female and then later morph into a male? We even have the same genitalia. If you pull out a woman's uterus, it hangs into a penis. If you pull out a woman's ovaries, they hang into gonads. During sex, a woman's uterus erects, just like a penis. Every hormone and man has, a woman has.
In adddition, the Hebrew word translated "complement" is Ezer. It has a meaning such as a business partner. No where does it infer rank; business partners are equal, even if they handle different aspects of the business (family). Additionally, the same word is used to describe Jehovah in relationships. He is hardly the submissive one in such circumstances. Jesus' wife is a co-equal and co-regent.
I DO believe there are differences in how women and men ACT. However, I agree with Ms. Meade that these differences occur because of social programming (nurture), not nature. From the moment we place a boy in blue and a girl in pink we are socializing them. We lower our voices with boy babies and say, "Aren't you a BIG guy!" and we raise our voices with little girls and say, "Aren't you a cutie!" And so it begins....
FD: If there is a physiological basis for gender roles, please state the physiological basis, and cite your references, scholarly works only.
2) I think everyone here knows I was paraphrasing what I learned over several days in the Psychology class. I think everyone here knows the writer of the scholarly work posted was paraphrasing Ms. Meads' work.
I will not be responding to any more posts on this thread. It has become too nasty. FD, I hope you and I are around to speak in 20 years. It will be interesting to compare your opinions then.
Daniel-P: Regarding your love of furry animals...I arrived home last night to find my 6' 4", firefighter, husband's eyes red and swollen from crying all day. Our 15 year-old, 15 pound, Cockerpoo doggie had broken his leg, and needs surgery to fix it. He is old, and has had many health difficulties as of late...not sure he will pull out of this one. LOTS of guys had rather love the furry creatures than kill them! Most of them just aren't strong and powerful enough to admit it.

Does anyone know about the two new guys? Were they always annointed...or just recently? It appears one arrived at Bethel only a few years ago. That's a pretty quick ascent.

birthdays
by paws inhi everyone and warmest wishes.....please can anyone help me with this....i'm a very, very ex witness single mum but my teenaged son's dad remains enslaved.
my son has reached his own conclusions about jw beliefs and has now had the courage to voice his dissapointment to his dad about not recieving even a birthday card from him and of course i have supported him.
i would like to be able to use some effective arguments with my ex about the jw stance on birthdays.

In the New World Translation, take him to the story of Job's children. I don't have a bible handy, so this is from memory. It talks about how they had the custom of gathering on each one's "day." Look up the references fcited for "day." All of them refer to a "birthday" celebration in the Bible. Job's kids were celebrating a birthday. There was a recent Question from Readers regarding (dismissing) this argument. I didn't feel it wasn't very persuasive.

MegaDude makes some valid points...divorce yourself of the emotion and count the cost. The laws in your state are mimicked in just about every state in the union. And, I feel, and it is just my opinion, that your husband in protected by those same laws. As you mentioned, by law, the money goes to the CHILD, not the mother. And yes, by law, your step-daughter must file a FAFSA to attend even a community college. Go online and you will see that this form asks for full financial disclosure from BOTH parents.
Far from being milquetoast, your attorney has probably given you very good advice. As you walk into court, your husband will be the father who is being non-cooperative in his daughter's quest for higher education. She is simply trying to complete the forms that EVERY student in the US completes, yet the "unreasonable" ( you will hear that word alot) father is blocking her attempts. Your husband's actions will scream more loudly than his words. Expect to see disdain in the judges eyes.
Regardless of the pioneering issue or any other choices that this young woman has made or will make, at least some education is better than none!
You didn't comment on the quality of the relationship between your husband and his daughter, but this certainly will not improve that relationship, nor will it make her more willing to accept anything he has to say regarding JWs.

Hey Daniel-P
Did you imagine when you started this thread it would turn into this? I was stunned when I logged on this a.m. to see its twists and turns.
